Department of Social Medicine and Health Education was founded in 2002, the current director of the Department is Professor Pei-Yu WANG. The department offers the following courses for undergraduate and graduate students including Health Education and Health Promotion, Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology and Social Medicine, Health Behavior, Health Management, and Communication in Public Health. The main research areas are Health education and Health promotion, Health behavior, Health Communication, Health Management for Non-Communicable Diseases, and Nutritional Epidemiology, etc.

Teaching
Courses for undergraduate students: Preventive medicine, Epidemiology and Social Medicine for students majored in Clinical Medicine, Basic Medical Sciences, Stomatology and Nursing are aiming at enabling students’ skills of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine and Public health. Health education and health promotion for students in School of Public Health is aiming at building their capacity of planning, implementing and evaluating health promotion projects. The elective courses offered by the Department include Health Education and Health Management for all undergraduate students in PKHSC, University Students Health Education for no-medical students from neighbor universities, Health communication and healthy life style for the students in main campus of Peking University aim to improve the students’ healthy lifestyle.
Courses for graduate students: Health education and health promotion, Health behavior, Communication in Public Health, Health Management, Mental health and stress management, Principles and Practices of Questionnaire and Scale.
Research subjects for graduate students: Health education and health promotion, Health Behavior, Health Communication, Health Management for NCD, Nutritional Epidemiology, etc.
Graduate students: By the end of 2018, 21 Ph.D, 99 Masters and 67 MPH (Master of Public Health) have been awarded. And there are 10 Ph.D candidates, 32 master candidates and 11MPH candidates in our department now.
